Dogs therapy

Dog therapies can be an important part of their health management. There are several types of therapy that can help relieve pain, heal injuries, and improve the physical and mental well-being of the dog, regardless of the breed.

Furthermore, canine therapy, also referred to as animal-assisted therapy, is a type of therapy that uses dogs to have a positive impact on the physical, emotional and social health of people. This can include using dogs in various settings such as schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and mental health treatment centers to reduce stress, alleviate anxiety, combat depression, and improve overall well-being. There are also specially trained therapy dogs that are used to assist people with disabilities, such as visual impairments or autism.

Animal physiotherapy - a component of dog therapy

Animal physiotherapy is often used. It uses exercises and massage to strengthen and stretch muscles and joints. This can be helpful for dogs with arthritis, joint disease or after surgery to relieve pain and promote faster healing. It can be used dry or in water. Hydrotherapy uses water and exercise to relieve pain and injury and improve physical well-being, or simply to increase canine fitness in this specialized dog training program. It is a safe and effective way to gently strengthen the dog's muscles and joints. That is our starting point!
Huffys Fit offers aqua training, hydrotherapy and hydro rehab through our underwater treadmills for dogs. These can be used to assist in animal physiotherapies, prophylaxis in animal health and general fitness improvement in dog training.

What do you have to consider in particular with dog therapy?

It is important to note that not every form of therapy is suitable for every dog. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a veterinarian to determine the best form of therapy for your dog.

Furthermore, things you should consider include, for example, the selection of appropriate dogs, careful training of therapists and dogs, adherence to hygiene and safety standards, and consideration of individual needs and preferences. It's also important to monitor and evaluate the effects of the therapy to make sure it's having the desired effect.

There are some no-go's that should be avoided in dog therapy to ensure that it is safe and effective. These include, for example, that dogs should never be forced to interact with people if they don't want to. Likewise, aggressive dogs should never be used in therapy. In addition, the individual needs and limitations of the people involved should be respected, and overtaxing them or putting them in uncomfortable situations should be avoided.
